CREATIVE SHOW QUALITY AT UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD

“Show Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, artful direction and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.”

ROLE: Lead Show Set Designer for Creative Show Quality

COMPANY: Universal Creative (Hollywood)

During my extensive tenure as the Lead Show Set Designer for Creative Show Quality at Universal Studios Hollywood, I dedicated myself to a broad spectrum of captivating projects, all aimed at ensuring an exceptional experience for every visitor to Universal Studios Hollywood.

Bi-annually we needed to replace the Krusty the Clown tongue outside of The Simpsons Ride. Working with a soft play vendor and Fox/Gracie to approve the color choices of the tongue, I worked with our park partners to tear out and replace the old material with a new vibrate color choice and longer lasting material.

During the conversion of Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem from a 3D attraction to a 2D attraction we needed to remove the 3D goggle pick up area and add a new thematic element. Many options were presented to the park and the IP holder and the option of using existing art in a brand new frame was decided upon to plug the hole that was left behind by the removal of the goggle pick up area. Below is my rendering of the proposed design with notes for construction, as well as progress photos of the build and completed design.

Every few years, the two Minion guards that flank the entrance to Super Silly Fun Land need to be removed from the park for refurbishment. During the time that the figure is gone, I designed a cover to hide the exposed conduit that is used to connect the figure to the base.
